Five Reasons Why You Should Become A Barber
As more and more men are taking the time to groom themselves from head to toe, the demand for barbers is growing at a rapid rate! We know choosing to switch careers or starting a career after high school can be overwhelming, but we’re here to help take some of that burden off of you. Here are some fun and valuable information that can help you make a decision to pursue a future in barbering!
#1. Social Environment
Are you an extrovert? Do you value relationships and like to expand your social circle? Barbering could be the career for you! Every day you walk into work, you will socialize with a variety of different personalities. Barbershops are known as a place for men to go hang out and socialize while getting a haircut. You will have the opportunity to create a fun environment with your clients and create a social network with them. Each client is different which means there will be a new conversation with every appointment. You could even be surprised at what you could learn and who you could network with simply by having a conversation. Getting paid to build relationships and hang with the boys seems like a pretty cool gig, don’t you think?
#2. Creativity
Use Your Creativity! While you will have clients who want a standard and simple cut, you may also have clients who want more of a trendy or unique look. No client’s needs are the same. If you consider yourself a creative person and have the passion to refine and develop your skills as a barber, you’ll never get bored! This profession allows you to grow your professional creativity and pushes you to think outside the box. Many barbers consider themselves artists and their client’s hair is their canvas! Choose to barber and you will keep up with trends, feel rewarded through helping clients increase their self-confidence, and create your own masterpieces!
#3. Keep An Active Lifestyle
While using your creativity, you also have the opportunity to be on your feet in an engaging atmosphere. Instead of having a job where you feel stagnant sitting at a desk five days a week, choose a career that allows you to keep an active lifestyle. As a barber, you will be washing, cutting, and styling hair all while reaping the benefits of working your core and upper-body muscles. Barbering may not be as rigorous as a workout session at the gym, but this career allows you to stay active and keep your body moving all day!
#4. Potentially Flexible Work Schedule
As a barber, you could enjoy flexibility in a number of areas. A big reason many are interested in barbering is because of the flexibility they can have with their schedule. If you want to work part-time, weekends, only a day shift, or full-time, there are options to choose the schedule that works best for you and can help relieve the stress of any other commitments. You also can often choose when you want your vacation days which can mean more time for traveling — a plus for all you travel bugs out there! If you are interested in creating your own schedule and becoming your own boss, barbering could be for you.
#5. Cool Opportunities
The most common work setting for a barber is easy to guess – a barbershop – but there are many industries and opportunities that you could take advantage of! You may choose to work in a unisex salon where men seek the same personal care that women get. Some other potential career opportunities can include social media (Instagram, Tik Tok, or YouTube influencer), editorial, and even positions in retail. The simple truth is that everyone always needs a haircut, which means barbering is an in-demand career with high job security!
